Open Coffee Meetup

Networking events in the startup community are plentiful. They each vary in theme but allow people with the appropriate skill sets, ideas or financial resources to meet and also offer an opportunity for service providers to introduce themselves. Some are informative containing demos, lectures or panel discussions while others focus on networking. The following events are held on a regular usually monthly basis:

Regular Tech Venture Events

    NYTM

    NYTM is the largest event with 700 attendees and provides a showcase for startups wanting to encourage the community or be more widely known.  More entertainment for geeks than informative the event is focused primarily on web startups.

    UltraLight

    UltraLight‘s flagship event is held on the first Thursday of the month. It combines elevator pitches, networking and panels in a uniquely well thought out format. The focus is on self funded, frequently cottage industry scale startups.

    The Hatchery

    When you get to wanting to pitch a VC then The Hatchery is a good group to meet.

    StartupAlpha

    A good place to meet angels which often uses legal offices and is generally a more mature suited event.

    The Entrepreneur Round Table

    There is also the Entrepreneur Round Table run by Murat and aimed at people who are more established and active (Have a team or active venture).

    Open Coffee

    There is a coffee meeting every Thursday morning (See Meetup.com for the Open Coffee Meetup). It’s a debating group of around ten meeting at 9:15am on 18th street. There are others in London (After which it is modeled) and also in New Jersey.

    Ignite

    Ignite has general presentations about 2/3 of which are related to technology in some way. It’s totally in the entertainment camp. Format: 10 slides of 20 seconds each.
